WAYNE GARDNER MATCH POINT AWARD
Wayne Gardner
The Wayne Gardner Match Point Award is designed to honor persons who, by their leadership and devotion to the sport of volleyball, have made an outstanding and noteworthy contribution to the advancement of volleyball in the Tacoma-Pierce County community.
The award is presented to a local-rated official who has served in the capacity as a member of the Executive Board for the Tacoma-Pierce County Volleyball Officials Board for a minimum of ten years. It is the highest award an individual can be honored with in the organization.
Wayne Gardner was born on October 12, 1910 in Fremont, Nebraska. He joined the organization in 1975 and has been an active member of the Tacoma-Pierce County Volleyball Officials Board for the past 29 years. As a state rated official he has worked six state high school championships and served as President of the organization.
Wayne is one of the most gracious and helpful individuals our Board has ever had. His vast knowledge of the sport was of great help in providing guidance during the early years of growth for the organization. Wayne’s commitment in promoting volleyball is unsurpassed in the community and he has been recognized nationally by the United States Volleyball Association as a recipient of the “Leader in Volleyball” award for his efforts on behalf of the sport. While kind and gentle to all, his passion and love for the game is unparalleled as is his devotion, dedication, and loyalty to the sport and that is the reason this award was established.
